Well,
you have to call it something! Its the name we give to a financial
entry in the books. It corresponds to a line in a manual cashbook. You
post (or enter) one when one of the following things happen: you pay a
cheque into the bank - or write a cheque out; you receive or pay cash;
you notice on the bank statement that a transfer or standing order has
gone in or out; you transfer money between current and deposit accounts
- these are the most common. Then there are transactions which enter
initial (or opening) balances when you start the system up.
To enter a transaction, you need the following details to hand: Date,
Account, Member (Contact), Activity, Reference Number (for deposits and
cheques written) and preferably some Notes. The various types of
transaction you can enter are listed under the main menu item
Transactions.
