So the first of several monthly seminars was arranged and you paid the tutor/lecturer 36.00 cash out of the tin!

Fire up hontreasurer.com and choose Transactions/Expenditure & Payments/Post Cash Paid. (This is so similar to Cheque Received that I have not repeated all the detail. If you want to review it, click here.) Put in the date you paid the cash and choose, or add, the Tutors' name. Now comes a tricky choice about Activity. Here's my suggestion: if it's for a specific event, select the Activity for the event, or create an activity Event - Tuition for that event specifically. If it's just general, create an activity Tuition for the year. Assign it to Accounting Category Expenditure. See here for a discussion of different ways of setting up Activities - it's quite an art. It's not hontreasurer.com's fault - it's just that there are a bewildering number of ways of looking at accounts!

Enter the amount and, if you received a receipt, put the number into the Receipt field. That's it. To look at the result, see here.

Oh, and just for practice, we spent 10.75 on coffee, milk, sugar and biscuits (cookies), so we can reclaim that out of the cash tin. See if you can post that.....

If you are following the Tutorial start-to-finish, try putting in 157.75 cash receipts from the seminar from, say, non-members. Hint: you need a Contact for anonymous people who can't be indentified and an Activity for either that Seminar or Seminars in general. Also put in another cheque for 50.00 for hire of the hall for the seminar. Hint: this goes under the Seminar activity so that you can see how much money was made or lost on the seminar.

Now open up Balances/Show Balances Tab. Expand Balance Sheet and Cash and you will see that there is 171.75 in the cash tin but there is an overdraft of 15.00 - or will be when the cheques we have written are paid in.

So perhaps we had better pay some of the cash into the Bank....
