General Usage
Having negotiated Getting Started, First Steps & Login, there are seven types of use you can make of hontreasurer.com: Transaction Viewing & Posting, Balance Interrogation, Member (or Contact) Maintenance, Activity Maintenance, Reporting, setting your Preferences and what is called "Standing Data" which includes maintaining Accounts, Users, Financial Years, etc.
Transactions
The meat of the hontreasurer.com system are the transactions. There is a panel for viewing transactions which is shown by choosing Transactions/Show Transaction List from the menu. This panel stays until Close Transaction List is chosen from the same place on the menu. The transactions displayed in the panel can be sorted and selected in many different ways.  The operation of the panel is described in Transaction Panel. You can Add, Edit or Delete transactions, assuming you have an appropriate Role. These process are described in detail in Transaction Postings
Balances
The Balances screen shows you the Profit & Loss and Balance sheet, always up to date as the transactions are posted. It allows you to see how each figure is arrived at by exploding that figure into its component values, into several levels, if necessary. This is described on the Balances Panel. There is a corresponding panel, the Movements Panel, which shows the change in balances for a given year. This is very useful for looking at the profit & loss in a year.
Members (Contacts) The complete list of Members (sometimes called Contacts because this list includes Customers & Suppliers as well as Members) can be shown by Choosing Members/Show Members List from the main menu. As with Transactions, this panel will remain until closed the same way. You can search for members and sort the list in many ways. The operation of the panel is described in Members Panel. If you have an appropriate Role, you can Add, Edit, Delete or email Members.
Activities Activities have a similar panel to Members and Transactions; it is described in Activities Panel.
Reporting
Reports fall into six different categories: Bank & Cash Reports, Activity Reports, Member Reports, Formal Management and Accounts reports, CashBook listings and, if any, Fund reports. These are described in Reports.
Preferences
Preferences can be set for the Database to access (normally only used if more than one database is in use), email settings, language (English only at present) and Tracing Level (if things go wrong hontreasurer.com may ask you to set these). These are all preferences which are set on the computer on which you are working. If you move computers, they will be different or you will have to reset them.

Preferences which are stored for the whole system are the checks which the system makes on Transaction Entry.

Preferences which are stored for you as a user are: Look and Feel (i.e. the general colourscheme and default colours), Fonts and Posting Preferences which override the system preferences. Not all Roles will have access to these.
Standing Data
Generally only the main user or administrator will have access to Standing Data applications for the maintenance of Accounts, Accounting Categories, Financial Years (including Open and Close), Activity Names, Funds, Organisation, Roles, Statuses and Users.
